COME OUT is celebrating having engaged a record audience for COME OUT Festival 2011, in excess of 150,000 children, young people, teachers and families’ across South Australia.

There were many highlights of the Festival, none more so than the Opening Parade on 25 March. This incredible event heralded the beginning of the Festival when 1600 children, teachers and volunteers marched from Victoria Square to Adelaide Town Hall to sing their grievances to the Lord Mayor, Stephen Yarwood. Office workers came out of their buildings and passersby stopped to watch as young people marched their way down King William Street to the Adelaide Festival Centre. If you missed the parade, check it out below.
Public Art project, Play Me, I’m Yours could be seen and heard across the city and metropolitan areas as the public stumbled across pianos and started playing, just as the invitation implied. Some schools went searching for them, while for others it was a surprise in their lunch hour. See all the photos and videos here.
COME OUT provided the opportunity for children, young people, artists and industry to see a range of works created especially for children and young people, from Australia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Ireland and China.
On 29 March public in the Adelaide Train Station were taken by surprise as approximately 100 students performed a flashmob. Created by Jamie Veneman with the assistance of CentreEd at the Adelaide Festival Centre, the flashmob epitomized what COME OUT is all about - children and young people getting involved in the Arts.
