COME OUT 09 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Come Out 09 is offering an exciting program of metropolitan and regional Professional Development opportunities for teachers from March through to the Festival in May 2009.
 
The PDs (listed below) are specifically designed for teachers to engage directly with the Come Out Festival Program, with the intention of provoking further enquiry into the subject area.
 
They also provide an opportunity for teachers to interact with professional artists, share knowledge and network with other teachers who are passionate about the arts.

METROPOLITAN

BOOKS & BITES
Overview: This PD offers imaginative approaches to invigorating young peoples connections to literature and reading focusing on the authors and illustrators who participate in the Books & Bites game show.

CREATIVE WRITING
Overview: Award winning writer Sean Riley activates the imagination through a dynamic, practical and action packed workshop that dissects the art of creative writing.

PRACTICAL PUPPET MAKING IN THE CLASSROOM
Overview: Gain insights into exhibition at Nexus by Tis Milner- Nichols. Participate in exploring links and approaches to making puppets in the class room.

CREATING THEATRE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AUDIENCES
Overview: Renowned Australian dance and theatre practitioner Sally Chance will explore and provide practical examples of how theatre / dance create a positive learning and life experience for babies and the very young. Sally will examine process and communication practices employed by professional artists to engage with the very young.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN LIVE PERFORMANCE
Overview: Frank Newman Artistic Director of Terrapin Puppet Theatre explores and discusses the practical application of new media and digital technologies in live performance. Includes performance of Explosion Therapy.

Overview: Taking a behind-the-scenes look at the work of some of Australia’s finest illustrators including their preliminary sketches and drawings revealing the creative stages and processes that lead to finished picture books.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN VISUAL ARTS
Overview: Spend a day deconstructing contemporary art practice. This PD includes a viewing of Fleur Else Nobles animation/film/performance work The 2-Dimensional Life of Her and exhibition Colliding Worlds & Phantasia. Each viewing will be followed by workshop and discussion sessions.

COLLIDING WORLDS TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FORUM
Overview: This forum will focus on the business of engaging with contemporary practice and will provide insights into art concepts, terminologies, and methodologies. John Neylon is an independent art writer, curator and education consultant.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER CULTURAL COMPETENCIES
Overview: Presented in association with Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute this session explores the diverse perspectives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander have toward country and identity. Includes viewing of short film Kanyini.

Overview: Composer and musician Heather Frahn explores practical approaches to music composition, recording and presentation for live performance and film and how to incorporate diverse technologies, musical instruments and found objects.
