Professional Learning
The COME OUT Festival 2011 program includes two Statewide Projects that focus on Digital Storytelling. To support these Digital Storytelling projects, Professional Learning (PL) workshops for teachers will be offered by DECS Learning Technologies ICT coaches, with input from ABC Local Radio Cross Media Reporters and a digital artist from design company Fusion (which manages Rundle Lantern).
One workshop will involve using free software such as Photo Story or iMovie to enable 30 second ‘photo stories’, made by students to be viewed on the ABC Local Radio website. The other will involve creating 30 second animations for the Rundle Lantern (a digital art canvas) on the corner of Pulteney and Rundle Streets and which can be viewed globally via the internet. PowerPoint will be used as an animation tool and converted into a movie file – great for people new to animation! Stop Motion Animation or Claymation are other methods: if you already have skills in this area this workshop is well worth doing as there are specific design features of the lantern to consider for effective results. The ICT Coaches can further support your skills in this area as well.
Both workshops are suitable for teachers from preschool, primary, special needs and secondary. Children of all ages can produce photo stories and there are simple, as well as more complex, applications for animations for Rundle Lantern. Yr 12 Art & Design teachers have expressed a desire for their students to design for the animations of Rundle Lantern – it is that flexible and accessible!
Both workshops are designed to provide quick training for teachers to support students in developing content for 30 second photo stories for uploading to the ABC Local Radio and also 30 second animations for viewing on Rundle Lantern.
Please note the workshop costs will be met by DECS for its teachers only and catering will be provided. A workshop fee will apply for Catholic and Independent teachers.
If you are interested in either one or both the workshops please dowload and print the registration form, fill in your details and FAX BACK to Sharyn Schell on F: 8226 3840.
Confirmation of your booking, with details of what to bring, will be emailed to you.
